Our company was first established 2011 in Finland by JP, IDC Staff Instructor, as a hobby: for fun diving and conducting diving courses to friends casually. The fundamental idea was ”to be lazy” and ”dive like a seal”: smoothly, relaxed and focused on one thing at a time, aiming at a flow state of mind – but with care. On the surface, being lazy means focusing. Whether it’s learning to dive or planning a dive. Concentrating and good preparation is everything. Multitasking is not allowed. Below the surface, being lazy means taking deep, slow breaths and performing easy moves, but also taking good care of yourself, fellow divers and the environment by being aware. As a Lazy Seal diver, there is more room for thinking, learning and hence actually enjoying – certification level is irrelevant. Based on this ground, as more and more people got to know Lazy Seal and began asking if there would be a ”real” business based on the Lazy Seal concept and if they could come back for more diving courses. JP with a small group of friends decided to establish Lazy Seal Diving Company in the tropical island of Koh Lanta, Thailand. The dive locations around Koh Lanta are extremely beautiful and suitable for all kinds of divers, the Lazy Seal team has been diving and working in Koh Lanta for years, so deciding the location of the diving company was easy.
